On July 27, 2022, members of the Democrats of Greater Tucson heard
Kelley Ireland and Teresa Neiberg of Moms Demand Action for Gun
Sense and Pete Plahmer of Banner Medical Center’s Trauma Outreach
& Injury Prevention program. The panelists discussed ways to
protect ourselves, our families, and our communities with two
Common Sense Gun Control advocates
Our panelist Kelley Ireland joined Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense
in America in 2011 after the Tucson mass shooting and the Sandy
Hook school shooting shortly thereafter. She works as a Co-Lead in
Moms’s educational “Be Smart” arm. She is active as a speaker and
presenter of the “Be Smart” program. Be Smart assists gun owners in
recognizing the critical importance of safe firearms storage.
Kelley is a gun violence survivor. She is a Fellow Survivor with
the Everytown Survivor Network, offering peer support for other gun
violence survivors.
Pete Plahmer, Trauma Outreach & Injury Prevention Coordinator
at Banner University Medical Center, is on a multi-professional gun
violence workgroup comprised of members from the County Attorney’s
office, County Mental Health, Tucson Police, the owner of
Diamondback Shooting Sports and others.
Our Panelist Teresa Neiberg is the Moms Demand Action State
Legislative Lead.
Moms Demand Action is a grassroots movement of Americans fighting
for public safety measures that can protect people from gun
violence. Moms help pass stronger gun laws and work to close the
loopholes that jeopardize the safety of our families.
